PhD Candidate
Houston, Texas 77030
Scott Malec is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Mr. Malec previously earned Master's degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh in the Information Sciences. Mr. Malec's research focuses on developing systems that automate abductive reasoning as it applies to large sets of observational data (derived from clinical notes) in the area pharmacovigilance, although this work should generalize to other domains in biomedicine and beyond. His principle interests reside in the interstices between graphical modeling, literature-based discovery, and abductive reasoning.

" ... some day the piecing together of dissasociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality....that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the space and safety of a new dark age."
- H.P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"
